Northern Stewards is a new business designed by Keith and Allan Thompson from Waterbury, Vermont.  Northern Stewards is a forestry and wildlife consulting business which provides consulting services that aim to enrich the relationships between landowners and their land.  The work that we provide is for communities and individuals that live or have a desire to live with an eye towards nature.

Keith and Allan grew up in Waterbury, Vermont and have founded Northern Stewards on the idea that human needs and the ecological health of our land are directly linked.  Therefore people’s wholesome, active relationship with their land is the most important factor in promoting a healthy and productive landscape in our state. It is for this reason that all of the work we do is done with the intention of providing people with information about their land and the places they love so they have the tools they need to be the best stewards of their own land.

We use private consulting, research, and public education as the tools to achieve a healthier state for us all to live.  Please check out our Products and Services page to see exactly what we can offer you.

Keith Thompson – studied Forestry at the University of Vermont. He has spent many years working in the forests of Pennsylvania, New York, and Vermont seeing the effects of both poor management and excellent management of our Northern Forest region.  In the variety of management techniques used in the forest he sees reflected the whole spectrum of societal values that drive our forest uses.  In his work with Northern Stewards, he strives to help the positive visions of landowners be reflected on their own land.

Allan Thompson – has spent years exploring and pursuing interests relating to wildlife and wildlife habitat relationships. Allan studied Wildlife Biology at the University of Montana.  Allan has spent his professional career researching amphibians, reptiles, small mammals including bats, wildlife use of their habitat, and impacts of human related disturbances on wildlife.  Wildlife is certainly only a part of a stable environment but when integrated with human presence, wildlife can be disproportionately affected thereby catalyzing negative effects through the infinite connections of our ecosystem. Responsible stewardship goes well beyond our ecological system and humans and wildlife are a part of that system. Through Northern Stewards, Allan continues to understand how wildlife works within that ecological system, greatly improving the ability to ensure that systems sustainability.
